What makes us different?

Rosalba Couture offers an alternative to the status quo.
There are no dictates here about what one "should" look like, or what rules one "ought" to adhere to given one's age, size, skin color, gender expression or any other physical attributes. In my view, all bodies are beautiful and special and meant to be treated kindly by ourselves and others.

The foundation of my company is embodied in a quote by British designer Jean Muir: "I prefer to think of fashion as a verb." Making clothing is my art and passion, and I understand the act of fashioning as one's individual ability to craft one's own image, to authentically express who we are for no other reason than that it is enjoyable!

Feeling beautiful means something different to each of us, and I find great satisfaction in helping a person create what that is, particularly when it falls outside of society's painfully narrow "norm". Throughout my life, I've had definite ideas of what I wanted to look like, and it changed frequently. I learned to design and sew as a means to follow my own intuition about how the art of dressing and adorning oneself is a daily act of self-love, empowerment and affirmation. 

There is great power in claiming something as ubiquitous and common as clothing our bodies in a new, personal way. It means exploring our relationship to our bodies and our relationship to consumerism. It necessitates understanding from where we make our choices, and asking whether what was true for us in the past is true for us now. It is giving ourselves permissions in a culture that persistently tries to box us in, in so many ways.

My work centers around salvage & reuse, creating beauty and inclusion, and living in alignment with my values. In forming Rosalba Couture, I bring what is most meaningful to me, to you!
